DarkFuse Magazine is an online publication now live and taking submissions for its featured fiction series.  Here's what we're looking for:

Original Fiction: Horror, thriller, suspense, crime, sci-fi, bizarre—anything with a dark slant. Original, never-before-published stories.  1K-2K words paid. Will publish longer stories, but maximum payout is to 2k words. Please don't submit stories longer than 15k.

Payment: 5 cents per word up to 2k words.

Rights Taken: One-time web publication rights.  Two year exclusive agreement before submitting to another market. Non-exclusive archive rights for the life of the online magazine. First anthology rights in English as stories accepted in the magazine will also be up for inclusion in the DarkFuse anthology series (not guaranteed). All other rights revert to the author on publication.

Response Time: 6 months or less.

For New & Mid-list Authors: This magazine is a paying market with a major focus on exposure through distribution and paid marketing and promotions of its content. DarkFuse editors use submissions to scout talent for the company's main focus and revenue stream which is its digital and physical book lines.

For Established & Professional Authors: This magazine offers professional rates and a growing readership. Payment greater than 5 cents per word may be offered if your work is solicited.

DarkFuse Magazine's The Vault Series focuses on reprinting currently uncollected works that are no longer available on the market (including the web). Many authors have published short fiction in limited editions or in print magazines no longer in circulation. The Vault's focus is to get this fiction back in front of readers and DarkFuse Magazine is one of the leading online publications with currently more than 5,000 registered subscribers.

DarkFuse is now accepting original horror novellas for its novella series. Before submitting, please make sure your work fits ALL of the following criteria:

(1) Manuscript must be between 15K-30K words
(2) Story is dark fiction (dark element to the plot).  Thriller, horror, suspense, crime, bizarre.
(3) Fiction is original, never before published in any form
(4) Manuscript is not submitted (or will be submitted) elsewhere during our review process
(5) This novella is the only novella currently being reviewed by DarkFuse (no multiple submissions in each category)

Rights

If accepted, DarkFuse acquires world rights for 5 years for print and eBook. After five years, rights will revert back to the author. DarkFuse does not take any film rights or other media. Year's Best Anthologies are excluded from these rights, meaning that if your work would be accepted in the major year's best anthos (edited by Ellen Datlow, Stephen Jones, etc.), then it would be free to be reprinted in those specific publications.

Any time after the five year publication period, author can choose to pull the rights, or leave them in print and continue getting royalties.

Publication

DarkFuse novellas are produced as limited edition hardcovers and digital editions. Optionally we will also be reviewing all unsolicited submissions for our online magazine and anthology series (with separate terms & offers). To qualify for this, please check the box during the submissions process.

Payment

All authors will receive 10% royalties for the limited edition hardcover. This will be paid on or before publication. Furthermore, the digital edition will be paid out at a rate of 30% of profits generated on sales of the title. This will be paid out quarterly.

Response Time

You will receive our decision within 6 months of submission. Rejections will be sent via e-mail form letter (we do not have the staff to provide a critiquing service).

Acceptances will be delivered via a personal e-mail from the editor.

DarkFuse is best known for its quality fiction. This isn't the easiest market to break into, so please submit your best work.

Always provide us with a clean, well-formatted manuscript with your name, address and other standard information on the cover page or header.

DarkFuse is now accepting original micro-fiction (flash fiction) for its website DarkFuse Magazine (for its Horror d'oeuvres series) and its DarkFuse anthology series published under the same name. Before submitting, please make sure your work fits ALL of the following criteria:
 
(1) Manuscript must be between 99 and 999 words
(2) Story is dark fiction (dark element to the plot).  Thriller, horror, suspense, crime, bizarre.
(3) Fiction is original, never before published in any form
(4) Manuscript is not submitted (or will be submitted) elsewhere during our review process
(5) No multiple submissions in each category (only one flash fiction story at a time)
 
Rights
If accepted, DarkFuse acquires non-exclusive lifetime rights for web (each story will be archived for the life of the site) and first worldwide anthology rights for both print and eBook. DarkFuse does not take any film rights or other media. Year's Best Anthologies are excluded from these rights, meaning that if your work would be accepted in the major year's best anthos (edited by Ellen Datlow, Stephen Jones, etc.), then it would be free to be reprinted in those specific publications.
 
Publication
The initial publication will be online at DarkFuse Magazine.  This website is a subscriber-based / members-only site, so your work will not be accessible to the general public—only to paid subscribers).  DarkFuse will also be publishing stories in its DarkFuse anthology series to be published in eBook & trade hardcover (featuring some of the stories published online).
 
Payment
All authors will receive 5 cents per word payable on initial publication, plus 1 free copy of all print editions their work appears in.  In addition, authors will get a complimentary lifetime subscription to DarkFuse Magazine.
